SUMMARY:Vigil Divine Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:The Divine Liturgy is the highest point of Melkite liturgical services. In the Divine Liturgy\, we celebrate the Eucharist; Christ is made present among us in the breaking of bread; Christ is the one who offers and is offered; and through the prayers and rituals of the Divine Liturgy\, we participate in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and all of salvation history. Other services that lead us more deeply into the celebration of the Eucharist include services like Great Vespers (evening prayer) and Orthros (morning prayer). At St. Basil’s\, a Vigil Divine Liturgy in addition to the Sunday Divine Liturgy is held to meet the current pastoral needs of the community.

SUMMARY:Akathist
DESCRIPTION:This service is commonly celebrated during the Great Fast. The hymns commemorate the pure and spotless Mother of God and her role in the salvation of the world. The hymns were composed in the 6th century by St. Romanos the Melodist. Beautiful imagery weaves together Old Testament images and their fulfillment in the New Testament. Though the hymns seem to be about the the Virgin Mary\, the Theotokos\, they all point to Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
