DESCRIPTION:This service is commonly celebrated during the Great Fast. The hymns commemorate the pure and spotless Mother of God and her role in the salvation of the world. The hymns were composed in the 6th century by St. Romanos the Melodist. Beautiful imagery weaves together Old Testament images and their fulfillment in the New Testament. Though the hymns seem to be about the the Virgin Mary\, the Theotokos\, they all point to Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
